Ask Robert

Dear ‘Ask Robert’ Enquirers,

You are truly welcome to use this free service.  Please remember it takes me about 10 -25 minutes to answer each enquiry personally and sometimes longer if I need to assess the latest statistics on your behalf. This is certainly as long as an average consultation in a private clinic.  So I really hope you may be generous enough to consider giving a donation to our charity.  It is the only charity of its kind with the consistent aim to improve the treatment of infertility, and to research new methods of treatment responsibility, for no profit. This is what we have be doing since IVF first started 40 years ago, and there have been many improvements of ours which have benefited couples all across the world.

Please note, I am less likely to be able to answer your question if it has been already answered previously on this website.  Also, it is more likely you will get an answer if you allow us to publish your question anonymously because without publishing your question with my answer means that the value of this website is greatly diminished to other readers with similar problems.

Also, I get many enquiries from people who obviously feel they have not received adequate advice or information so far.

But it is impossible for me to help you when you give me so few details. I simply cannot answer questions like: “Have been trying to get pregnant for 2 years without success, and I have abnormal levels of hormones showing up in blood tests. What can be done?”

Unfortunately, without basic information about your age, test results and any treatment you have already undergone, I won’t be able to answer.

Ask a New Question

The internet and print media are awash with misinformation and spurious facts about fertility and the causes of infertility. This is your opportunity to ask leading fertility expert, Professor Robert Winston those burning questions that keep you awake at night regarding fertility, IVF and general advice about getting pregnant.

This is a confidential service. However, anonymised extracts from real questions and answers (with your permission) may be posted on this page as a help to others in a similar situation. Professor Winston will answer all questions personally, so please be patient as it may take a while to get to your question.

Please understand that you must not expect very specific advice from Professor Winston about your precise problems because he does not have full information and has never met or examined you. A website cannot replace a full consultation. Clearly, without having taken a full history, examined you carefully, looked at ALL the tests results including X-rays and ultrasound etc. it would be presumptuous to make very specific suggestions.

AS WE ARE CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING A HIGH NUMBER OF SUBMISSIONS YOUR QUESTION MAY NOT BE ANSWERED IF A SIMILAR QUESTION HAS BEEN ANSWERED BEFORE. (Please do not ask basic questions that should be asked of your GP).

Please submit your question on the form below. Your post will NOT appear on the site but will be sent to a secure postbox accessible to Professor Winston only. The confidential reply will appear in your personal Inbox.
