I have tried everything, what else can I do to get pregnant?
Dear Professor Winston,

I am in my early 40’s and have been undergoing fertility treatment for 5.5 years, 18 months of clomid, then IVF.  I had 5 retrievals which led to 7 transfers.  I had 2 miscarriages and one baby with trisomy 18.  I have just undergone donor egg IVF (2 blastocysts 1 x 4AB, 1 x 2AA) which was also negative.  I have had a laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, blood tests to check for clotting, I have been karyotyped and took aspirin, steroids, oestrogen and progesterone to support my transfer.  I am able to carry a baby and have given up on using my eggs now, but am still not able to get pregnant.  After 9 transfers with no baby, is there anything else I can consider doing to help make this treatment a success?

D.

Dear D.,

What’s wrong with your uterus?  Have you had a really carefully done hysterosalpingogram with x-rays of the uterus pulled down into profile?  And how many donor egg transfers have you had?  Were these from frozen or fresh eggs.

Best wishes

Robert Winston
