Ask Robert

IUI at 47

Dear Professor Winston,
I am 47 and have had one non-medicated IUI a month ago that was unsuccesful. Should I try another cycle of IUI or should I proceed to donor egg? Thank you. L

Dear L,
Why are you having IUI? There is no evidence that I know of which suggests that IUI, especially in women over 42 offers any advantage. And the chance of having a live birth with your own eggs at 47 is probably no more than 1-2% per cycle at best.
Best wishes
Robert Winston
